MVSC's U8/9 Player Placement Model for 2012 Competitive Teams

NEW THIS YEAR:  MVSC has modified our fall competitive offerings for U8 and U9 players.  MVSC aims to provide all interested, dedicated U8 and U9 soccer players with an opportunity to benefit from a professionally coached, player development program during the fall season.  Competitive tryouts for these age groups only will incorporate a Player Placement model.  All U8 and U9 players who attend our Player Placement in late April/early May will receive an invitation to participate in one of the following three opportunities:

1.  Participation on one of MVSC’s U9 Competitive Teams.
MVSC typically sponsors two U9 Competitive Teams.  Our teams practice as a team, and compete with other competitive clubs’ teams in weekend league games and competitions.  Players who attend our Player Placement and demonstrate the highest levels of athleticism, technical ability, tactical understanding, and emotional maturity will receive invitations to play on a U9 Competitive Team.

2.  Participation on a U8/9 Development Training Group.
Depending upon the turnout at our U8/9 Player Placement, MVSC may form U8/9 Development Training Groups (one for the boys, one for the girls).  Development Training Groups consist of 12-16 players who are of comparable ability and dedication.  Players who are a part of these Training Groups will have the opportunity to train once or twice per week with a professional coach during the fall season, as a supplement to their participation on their MVSC Recreational Team.  Development Training Groups may have the opportunity to play in a few friendly games during the course of the fall season, but they will not compete regularly as a team in a competitive playing league.  Only ability-appropriate players will be offered invitations to join a U8/9 Development Training Group.

3.  Participation in MVSC’s First to Third Grade Fall Junior Skills Program.
Any player who does not receive an invitation to participate in 1 or 2 above, will be invited to participate in MVSC Fall Junior Skills Program.  Our Junior Skills Program is a professionally coached player development program which offers training once or twice per week during the fall season, as a supplement to the players’ participation on their MVSC recreational teams.  The Junior Skills Program is open to all interested First to Third grade MVSC rec players.  Players do not need to attend our Player Placement tryout to join the Junior Skills Program.

MVSC’s new Player Placement approach for our U8/9 players will enable all motivated players to benefit from a strong developmental training opportunity during the fall, regardless of their current level of athleticism or ability.
