2007 MVSC SoccerFest - Now Featuring Brandi Chastain!
The 5th
Annual Mill Valley SoccerFest, an exciting community event
celebrating the community’s passion for soccer and kicking off
the 2007-2008 soccer season, will take place Monday, September
3rd, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m., at “Friends Field” behind the
Mill Valley Community Center.
Just added is
the appearance of Brandi
Chastain, former US World Cup Championship Team
Member and new mom (14 month old). Brandi is married to Jerry
Smith, Coach of the US Women’s National Team. Brandi played for
the SJ CyberRays before the womens professional league folded
about 3 - 4 seasons ago. If you have your July 1999 Sports
Illustrated now is the time to find it and ask Brandi to
autograph the cover. The image on the cover of Brandi on her
knees, pumping her fists in the air and screaming with glee
while holding her jersey has been called THE defining moment in
women’s sports history. MVSC will have a limited number of the
SI 1999 edition available for purchase.
Brandi will
speak briefly on being a role model and the value of hard work.
She may be signing her new book (title unknown to me at this
time). Our local sportscaster, Vern Glenn of KRON 4 is
responsible for helping securing Brandi’s appearance.
 Team
members from USF Men’s, Dominican Women’s and the California
Victory will be appearing to put on short clinics starting at
about 1:30pm.
This year’s
SoccerFest, sponsored by the Mill Valley Soccer Club (MVSC),
will include the Creedman Cup 4 vs. 4 soccer tournament*,
hands-on skills and drills obstacle course, a “Fun Zone” for the
little ones, food, music, entertainment and much more.
