Registration for the 2008 Fall Recreational Soccer Season is fast
approaching. You will have opportunities to register your child on-line,
or by walk-in registration on 5/1, 7:00 – 9:00, and 5/4, 1:00 – 3:00
at the Edna McGuire gym. If you are coming to walk-in registration,
please come prepared with:
-
Birth certificate for first time
players. Also, for first time registrants, please indicate the
mother’s date of birth (Month/Day, no Year) on the bottom of the
form. This is needed for a CYSA on-line security feature.
-
Doctor’s name and phone number
-
Emergency contact information
-
Check-book
A
successful season often starts with a successful registration form.
Accuracy and LEGIBILITY are extremely helpful to the Club. If we can’t
read your email address, neither can your coach. Also, there are
decisions to be made. Making the right choices for your child will
dramatically improve their enjoyment for the season. Consider the
following:
1. Age vs. Grade – On the CYSA form, indicate their correct birth date,
and the grade they will be entering in Fall ‘07. CYSA guidelines specify
a 7/31 cutoff for determination of which age group your child plays in.
For example, if he is 8 as of 7/31, he should play in the U9 (under 9)
division.
However, if your child is 7 on 7/31, but turns 8 between 8/1 and 12/31,
he is probably entering 3rd grade, and may want to play U9 with all the
other 8 year olds. The Club allows “play-ups” in recreational soccer so
that a child can play with his classmates. If your child’s birthday is
after 12/31, he may be 6 to 9 months younger than the other players, and
it is not developmentally advisable for him to play up. We do not
generally allow play-downs.
If you attend the walk-in registration, we will help you make this
decision, as all play-ups must be approved by the Age Group Coordinator
or the Director of Rec Soccer.
2. Boys vs. Girls – The Club offers the option of coed play at all ages.
At U6 & U7, all play is coed. At U8 and U9, there is limited difference
in player size and ability, and coed play (within the Boys division) is
encouraged, but we recognize that some girls will prefer to play in an
all girls division. At U10 and above, the option of coed play remains,
but is less common. Together with your child, you are the best judge of
what experience will suit her developmental needs. Please indicate this
choice clearly on your registration form. Any girl who does not request
a Boys/Coed team will be placed in the Girl’s Division.
3. Friendship Requests – Sports are about playing with friends, but also
about meeting new ones. The Club’s policy is to attempt to satisfy one
friendship request per player, but we cannot guarantee this.
On your registration form, indicate one friend your child would like to
be teamed with. It is a good idea for that family to request your child
as well. Parents who write down multiple friends are asking the Club to
make a choice we are not prepared to make. If you write several names,
we will try to honor the first name on the list. Requests to form “all
school” teams are not in the best interest of the player, the team, or
the Club, and will not be honored.
After team formation, the Club will not honor a family’s request for
trades based solely on friendship requests.
4. Special Circumstances – In the margins of the reg form, please
indicate special circumstances that will apply to your child and the
team he is placed on. A demonstrated hardship for carpooling, religious
school commitments, or other weekday conflicts that are known at the
time of registration, are some reasons that might impact team placement
or practice times. Circumstances brought up after team formations are
less likely to be considered.
