The Marin Soccer Community mourns the untimely death of Eloi Vasquez.  Eloi played with MVSC for three years, after which time he played for Marin FC.  This past fall, Eloi played as a freshman for UC Berkeley's Men's Soccer Team.  During his high school years, Eloi worked as an MVSC referee (earning "Referee of the Year" award one year), and he gave back to the game and to our community as a Coach, mentor, role model, and friend.

"Eloi was one of the most dedicated, disciplined and driven young athletes I've seen come through Marin in the past 18 years.  He has been and always will be a standout example many Marin Coaches refer to when speaking to young athletes about what it takes to wholeheartedly pursue your dreams -- both on and off the field," Rick Fullerton commented.  "Eloi's humble, caring, infectiously positive personality will forever touch and inspire those of us fortunate enough to have known him."

Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to Eloi's family and loved ones.    

In order to honor Eloi and inspire future MVSC athletes, MVSC, in concert with the Vasquez-Margolin Family, is introducing the Eloi Vasquez “Living for the Game” Award.  

This award is presented in honor of Eloi Vasquez (1995-2015), an extraordinary student athlete and former MVSC competitive soccer player who excelled on and off the soccer field, and went on to earn a scholarship to play Division 1 College Soccer at UC Berkeley.

This award may be given out by any Competitive Coach to a player who epitomizes exceptional dedication, discipline and drive to improve themselves as well as those around them, by demonstrating inspirational levels of skill, focus, commitment, personal responsibility, family devotion and work ethic both on and off the field and inside and outside of their team environments.

MVSC and the Vasquez-Margolin family have established a fund to provide additional financial assistance to Award recipients.  Please consider giving to the fund to keep to keep Eloi’s inspiration alive.
