Competitive Small-Sided Games (SSG) Fall Program

New this year!!!   MVSC's Competitive Small-Sided Games (SSG) Program is open to all players on MVSC Competitive Teams.  The program is designed to provide participants with an invaluable third day of weekly training and play during the fall season, in a game-based format.

Players will be grouped primarily by team and ability, with players from more than one competitive team typically playing together.  Sessions will consist of a 15-minute warm-up with technically-focused activation exercises, followed by over an hour of small-sided games (2 v 2, 3 v 3, 4 v 4, 5 v 5; rondos, numbers-up/numbers-down position-based games).  Our professional coaching staff will manage the activities and games, providing instruction and challenging players to improve in game situations.  Players will improve their technical execution, spatial awareness, positional roles and responsibilities, speed of play, mobility and fitness while playing in game competitions.  Teamwork, respect, integrity and sportsmanship will be emphasized throughout all games and activities.

Small-sided game formats are optimal for learning, as they maximize time on the ball, player involvement, and decision-making in attack, defense and transition.  Our games-based program will be an excellent supplement to players' two weekly team trainings.

All sessions take place on Fridays at Alto Field, from September 10 - October 29.

  • U8-U11 competitive boys and girls:  3:30-5:00pm
  • U12-U19 competitive boys and girls:  5:00-6:30pm

In the event of inclement weather, please check MVSC's home page after 2:30pm on the day of training to find out if the field is open.  We will add make-up sessions at the end of the program for any sessions canceled due to field closure.

Our SSG Program will be staffed by experienced professional coaches from MVSC’s Competitive Program.
